| We
recently participated in the Franklin County, PA Migrant
Education Summer Program where we taught weekly on different
environmental habitats in the Americas and Africa and
how the Indigenous peoples interacted with those habitats.
We began our teaching sessions in the program by introducing
our Native American culture to the students through dance,
music, storytelling and presentation. Because the students
also come from an indigenous North or South American culture,
we wanted to present the importance to staying connected
to culture.
With the primary curriculum focus being on habitats,
we wanted to present our materials from a perspective
differing from the other teachers, so we looked for ways
to incorporate indigenous, culture traditions into our
teaching, depending on the area.
