Culture: Schools

The 2006 Franklin County, PA Migrant Education Program

Week Three:

The theme was the Rainforest. We spoke about the importance of the Rainforest and how the indigenous tribes lived within it. We talked about the Rainforest’s role in the global environment in producing oxygen. We talked about different kinds of food we get from the Rainforest and had the students try to identify a number of Rainforest foods by touch and smell alone.

We also shared how companies are working with the tribal medicine men to learn of the traditional cures using Rainforest plants, insects and animals. For a craft, we had the students make and decorate rainsticks.

Tony helps one of the boys with his rainstick.
